I had to share this with you today – Harry Potter actor, Daniel Radcliffe, killing “Alphabet Aerobics” by Blackalicious on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon  in the US.

It’s easy for us erm… more mature music lovers to dismiss rap as violent, misogynistic and foul mouthed. In fact, push aside the dross and you can find so much poetry in this popular form of self expression. It’s well worth the quest! I love this tongue-twisting, vocabulary-celebrating marathon, for no other reason than it makes me smile.

As the bio on the Blackalicious website explains:

Blackalicious has generally favored what hip-hoppers call the “positive tip”; in other words, its lyrics have often been spiritual and uplifting rather than violent or misogynous. Like a lot of experimental alternative rappers, Blackalicious can be quirky and eccentric; nonetheless, spirituality is a big part of the group’s music.

Hailing from Sacramento, California, this hip hop duo is made up of rapper Gift of Gab (born Tim Parker) and DJ/producer Chief Xcel (born Xavier Mosley) Check em out.
