Creative Business Ideas – Rising Tide Car Wash

Creativity extends to creative ways of doing Business. The car wash company featured in the short video below was specifically created to provide a young man with autism a purpose and now 90% of their workforce is on the autistic spectrum.

We view autism as one of our key competitive advantages – CEO Tom D’Eri

Tom D’Eri, CEO of Rising Tide Car wash in Florida, says they “view autism as one of our key competitive advantages.” Why? Process-driven tasks suit people who are on the autistic spectrum and they generally have a good eye for detail. Every part of the business is carefully structured to get the best out of those who work in it.

The company was started by Tom’s father, John D’Eri when he realised that employment opportunities for his younger son, Andrew, were few.

Currently, in the UK, only 15% of adults with autism are in full time, paid employment.

An added bonus is that satisfied customers have regular contact with employees with autism, which helps to challenge limiting perceptions of the syndrome. Win Win.
